What Is An Open Design?
Our frames are produced using open design moulds. It allows us to put the value where we believe is best for you, the rider – into the production process and materials. Is an open mould absolutely unique, no. But the production techniques that go into the frame that comes out of them, are.
We choose open mould designs that we have thoroughly researched. We analyse and we test our frames - their geometries and ride characteristics and we talk to the designers that engineer them. We also only use open mould shapes that have been fully fluid dynamic tested so that you know you're getting an aerodynamically tested and efficient bicycle.
Not all open mould frames are created equal. We have carefully selected our factory production partners and we visit our factory regularly, to make sure that we know and trust the workmanship and materials that go into our bike frames. All our frames are produced using state of the art technology.
We laser cut all our carbon shapes that go into our frames and all the carbon we use is guaranteed Japanese Toray carbon fibre, the highest commercially available carbon fibre in the world.
We use only EPS moulding technology on all our frames - the latest process in carbon moulding technology. It allows us to create frames that are finished cleanly on the inside, while also allowing us complete control over the wall thickness of our tubing - this allows us to tune for strength, stiffness and compliance (comfort).
Our factory uses a full testing facility to ensure the quality of our frames. All of our frames are fully EU ISO certified and rated. Our Ascent and Aero models, as well as all our wheels, are also UCI compliant and are able to be raced at the highest international standard.
We will get in touch with in a few hours of your order to let you know the status of your order. Following that we'll let you know when your order ships out and when you can expect it on your doorstep, along with any tracking codes.
How Do I Take Care Of My Carbon Bike And Wheels?
Please see the maintenance section.
Where Are Cabal Bikes Designed?
The look, feel and visual design of Cabal Bikes is created in Cape Town. The technical engineering and designs were created by the open design owner. Although much of the research and real world testing is a shared evaluation between the testing facility at he factory and us.
Where Are Cabal Frames Manufactured?
Our bike frames are manufactured at our factory in China. The Cabal team has sourced and researched the factory, and we travel to it to maintain our quality standards and meet the people who make our product.
What Sets The Quality Of Cabal Open Design Frames Apart?
Our production process applies the highest standards of carbon production. Our carbon pieces are laser cut from the world’s highest quality commercially available carbon, Japanese Toray carbon fibre, which is moulded using EPS technology. This ensures our products have the most even carbon layup and the best material and resin distribution during the carbon product manufacturing process.
What Design Checks And Tests Have Been Done To Ensure The Safety Of Riders?
Every frame model we sell has been rigorously tested in a bicycle-specific test facility to meet European ISO certified safety requirements. We also rigorously test and push our bikes in real world conditions for up to a year before we offer them to the public. Read our returns, warranty and replacement documentation if you'd like to know the limits of your risk.
Are Chinese Carbon Frames of Lower Quality Than Those Made in Europe?
Many of the world’s biggest brands use factories in China, but not all factories in China produce frames of equal quality. We trust our factory, the manufacturing processes it uses and the quality product it produces, as do other significant and reputable big brands in the international market that use the same factory as us.
Why Shouldn’t I Just Buy Open Design Mould Bikes Directly From China?
You can, as long as you understand the risks involved. If you want a blank frame, with no paint, are certain about the source you’re getting it from and want to handle the shipping, importing and warranty risks yourself, there is nothing wrong with buying a bike directly from China. We would caution that you should know the history of your source before doing so, understanding your risks and lack of recourse.
What Sort Of Quality Control Do Your Frames Go Through?
Our factory applies multiple quality checks to every frame, it’s decals and paint application. Quality control is then re-applied to frames when they arrive in South Africa. You can also have peace of mind knowing that our frames are warrantied directly by a local business, which means if a warranty issue arises then it’s dealt with immediately to get you back riding in no time.
Why Is The Direct To Public Model More Cost Effective?
The direct-to-public model means you get frames and groupsets from the original manufacturer, to your doorstep. We deal with the frame manufacturer directly and our groupsets come straight from the SRAM factory through our OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) agreements or directly from the regional distributors if Shimano or Campagnolo. Any bulk discounts we receive are passed on to the customer as savings.
